Academy sponsorship manager Simon Milton hosted an Academy Association fundraiser in the Sir Bobby Robson Suite last night with manager Mick McCarthy, his assistant Terry Connor, academy director Bryan Klug, joint-MD Jonathan Symonds and graduates Tommy Smith and Luke Hyam amongst those attending. The event saw the premier of a new promotional academy film as the Blues’ youth set-up progresses towards attaining category one status.

Jay Tabb scored his first goal for four and a half years as Town drew 1-1 at Sheffield Wednesday as they continued, but were unable to complete, their march to Championship safety. The on-loan Reading man’s knee diverted home a Carlos Edwards long throw in the first half of a scrappy game in which the Owls equalised after the break through Leroy Lita.

Town are understood to have made an enquiry regarding Watford keeper Scott Loach. The Hornets may be will willing to sell the former England U21 international, who was previously with the Blues’ academy between 1997 and 2000 before his family returned to hometown Nottingham, as they are reportedly set to sign former Cardiff man Tom Heaton, who is a free agent.

Town’s U18s’ four-game unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday morning with a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace at a scorching Playford Road. Goals from Caolan Lavery and Jack Marriott couldn’t prevent Russell Osman’s youngsters from falling to a heavy loss against the Londoners.

Town’s U18s comfortably beat Colchester United 4-1 at Playford Road on Wednesday morning. A brace from Carel Tiofack plus one each from Jidé Maduako (pictured) and Jon Leddy put the young Blues in a commanding position before a late strike from Gus Mufuta reduced the deficit.
